Slip, slap, slop has always been the motto when on holiday, with a gallon of Factor-50 sun cream being the preferred alternative to at best a bright red nose, at worst skin cancer. But it turns out that high-factor sun cream might not be as safe as it appears. A 12 year-old girl in the UK has been diagnosed with the early stages of rickets, reportedly after her using too much Factor-50. The Daily Telegraph reported that Tyler Attrill developed severe leg pains and was found to lack vitamin D. In hospital it was discovered that 40 similar cases had been reported in the past year hospital, with doctors saying that Tyler’s condition was “almost certainly a combination of the modern lifestyle, which involves a lack of exposure to sunlight and covering up in sun cream”.
TDA would like to add that the case is very rare, and we still encourage all our readers to slip, slap, slop when exposed to the sun.
