Hanoi’s underground rail network will start operating by the end of 2016, French officials in the country have said. Thanh Nien News reported a French Embassy statement as saying that construction of the first Hanoi Metro line – a 12.5km stretch connecting the city’s Hoan Kiem District to the Nhon area in east Hanoi – would be sped up to meet the deadline. The project, which is being partly funded by the French Development Agency, will eventually see a network of five urban rail lines by 2020.
