Hawaiian Airlines has launched its first ever flight to mainland China, with the start of a new service to Beijing.
The new route commenced last week, and Hawaiian will now operate three weekly flights to the Chinese capital, direct from Honolulu, using its 294-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
“Service to China has long been an aspiration of Hawaiian and the entire Hawaii tourism community, making today’s inaugural flight an especially meaningful event,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president & CEO. “Travellers on our Beijing-Honolulu route will experience the special presentation of our authentic Hawaiian hospitality that has earned the loyalty of customers around the world.”
Flights depart Honolulu every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 0001 and arriving in Beijing at 0555 the following day, having crossed the international dateline. The return flight then leaves the Chinese capital at 0105 every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and arrives in Honolulu at 1640 the previous day, having re-crossed the dateline.
And to further boost its presence in China, Hawaiian has signed a new codeshare agreement with Air China. The deal will see Hawaiian will place its ‘HA’ code on Air China’s flights from Beijing to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Shenyang. In return, Air China will place its ‘CA’ booking code on Hawaiian’s flights from Honolulu to the neighbouring islands of Kahului, Lihu’e, Kona and Hilo.
Hawaiian will be hoping its new mainland China service fares better than its route to Taiwan, which was pulled earlier this year following less than a year of operations.
