Hertz has banned customers from smoking in all its rental cars.
The company will advise customers of the new policy at the time of rental, as well as placing non-smoking signs and stickers in its entire fleet of vehicles, urging customers not to smoke. If Hertz does find evidence of smoking in the vehicle, the customer will be charged a US$100 cleaning fee.
“While most of our cars were already non-smoking, the vast majority of customers, as well as Hertz employees who transport cars, now indicate that they prefer to drive a smoke-free vehicle every rental. For that reason, the time is right to transition our fleet to non-smoking,” said Mark P. Frissora, chairman & CEO of Hertz.
“By moving to a non-smoking fleet, car rental customers, car sales buyers and employees will be even more assured that Hertz vehicles are clean and safe,” he added.
Hertz currently operates from approximately 10,400 locations worldwide under its Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty brands.
