Hilton Worldwide has signed a new deal with Japanese online travel agent, Rakuten Travel.
Under the new intermediary agreement, Hilton will initially offer Rakuten access to the rates and availability of 54 Hilton properties, including the Conrad Centennial Singapore, Conrad Bangkok and DoubleTree by Hilton Los Angeles Downtown. If successful, the programme will expand to all 4,000 Hilton hotels worldwide.
“Japan is one of the world’s largest source markets for outbound tourism and represents a key strategic market for Hilton Worldwide,” said Timothy Soper, Hilton’s vice president of operations for Japan, Korea & Micronesia.
“This intermediary agreement with Rakuten Travel is a major step in extending our market leading position in Japan to the rest of the world for Japanese travellers,” he added.
The agreement with Hilton becomes Rakuten Travel’s first direct system connection with an international hotel company. And the OTA’s president, Takanobu Yamamoto, said he hoped it would boost the company’s booking volumes.
“As one of the largest online hotel reservation sites in Japan with over three million room nights booked per month, we are delighted to offer our customers an extensive range of quality assured accommodation offered by a leading hotel group like Hilton Worldwide,” said Yamamoto.
