Hong Kong has approved a plan to develop a HK$66.9 billion (US$8.6 billion) high-speed rail project, Channel NewsAsia has reported. The rail link will connect Hong Kong with Guangzhou and the growing high-speed rail network in mainland China. However the decision triggered protesters in Hong Kong, with citizens complaining that the scheme will lead to the displacement of villagers along the route.
