IHG signs Holiday Inn in Medina
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a contract with Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development Company for a new 400-room Holiday Inn hotel in the Holy City of Medina. The deal, signed at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, is the latest step in a regional expansion plan for IHG, which will see it add a further 10,652 rooms across the Middle East over the next three to five years.
Commenting on the signing Kirk Kinsell, IHG’s President for EMEA, said; “Medina is an important religious destination so there is strong demand for quality hotels at an affordable price. Partnering with Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development Company on a deal of this calibre demonstrates our commitment to expansion in the Middle East.”
Dr Ahmad Al Qasabi, Chief Development Officer of Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development, commented; “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is fast expanding as a business and tourist destination so there’s a growing demand for hotels that cater to the mid-scale market. The strength of the Holiday Inn brand and the site’s location which is ideal for both leisure and religious visitors, makes this a perfect deal for us.”
The Holiday Inn Medina – Al Safwa will be located close to the western yard of the Al Haram Holy Mosque and ideally situated for people visiting the city on business or for religious reasons.
