International visitor arrivals to India continued to rise in September 2015.
According to the latest data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism, India welcomed 540,000 overseas visitors last month, up 6.1% year-on-year. Bangladesh accounted for the highest number of visitors (18.8% of the total), followed by the US (11.0%), UK (8.0%), Malaysia (4.7%) and Sri Lanka (4.7%).
Delhi Airport handled (30.1%) of arrivals, while 17.2% entered at Mumbai Airport and 10.6% at the Haridaspur land border in West Bengal, which connects India with Bangladesh.
India generated international tourism receipts of INR95.12 billion (US$1.47bn) in September, up 5.0% year-on-year.
For the first nine months of the year, international arrivals to India have now risen 4.6% to 5.6 million, while tourism receipts have increased 3.2% to INR917.37bn.
