India continued to experience rising visitor arrivals in August 2015.
According to the latest data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism, 589,000 international visitors entered India last month, up 2.3% compared to August 2014.
Bangladesh accounted for the highest proportion of visitors (15.8%) followed by the US (12.5%), UK (9.7%), Sri Lanka (7.3%) and Malaysia (3.5%).
Delhi Airport handled (27.8%) of total international arrivals, ahead of Mumbai Airport (17.3%), Chennai Airport (10.7%) and the Haridaspur border crossing (8.8%) which connects India with Bangladesh.
India generated tourism revenues of INR104.71 billion (US$1.57bn) in August, up 0.8% year-on-year.
For the first eight months of 2015, international arrivals to India have now risen 4.5% year-on-year to 5.07 million, while tourism receipts climbed 3.0% to INR822.25bn.
