UK travel trade legend and ex-ABTA president John Harding has passed away aged 72.
Harding was one of the industry’s longest serving professionals, having started his career at P&O Steamships in 1959.
Over the course of his career he worked for the likes of Centurion Holiday Group, Rainbow Holidays and Travelscene. He retired in 2009 and relocated to France, where he passed away on 11 January.
Commenting on Harding’s passing, Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ATBA said: “It was with deep regret that ABTA heard today of the death of ex ABTA president John Harding. John was passionate about the travel industry, particularly championing the interests of the independent sector. Over the years John worked on various ABTA committees and the Board, before finally being elected as President when serving as a director at city break specialist Travelscene. John will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, both professionally and personally.”
Harding’s family have extended invitations to his funeral which will be held at 2PM on 10 February at the Three Counties crematorium, Braintree, Essex.
The wake will be held at the Green Man, Lindsell, Essex, after 3pm.
John’s fiancé, Christine Cox has extended the invitation to all who want to pay their respects and has asked for prior indication of potential attendees by 5 of February if possible, at buntystokes@hotmail.co.uk
Rather than flowers the family has suggested a donation to cancer research to be collected by G.W Hardy and Sons, 36 Nether Gate St, Clare, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 8NP. Telephone: 01787277418.
