Iran has continued to modernise its passenger aircraft fleet with the placement of an order for 100 Boeing aircraft.
The country’s FARS news agency reported the head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO), Ali Abedzadeh, as saying on Saturday that a deal has been signed, although details of the order were not confirmed.
“The two sides reached a written agreement to purchase 100 planes,” Abedzadeh was quoted saying.
Earlier this month, Iran’s Minister of Roads & Urban Development, Abbas Akhoundi, confirmed that an agreement had been reached with the US aerospace giant.
“We have reached a deal with the global aviation giant Boeing over the purchase of new planes that could set a new milestone in the country’s efforts to revamp its aging air fleet,” he said.
Iran has moved quickly to modernise its aviation sector following the recent lifting of economic sanctions. Earlier this year, the country placed a US$25 billion order for 118 Airbus aircraft, including 12 A380s. It also placed orders for up to 40 ATR turboprop aircraft to enhance its short-haul operations.
