Two of the most popular World Expo pavilions may be preserved as tourist attractions in Shanghai, the China Daily has reported. The Expo Bureau has reportedly signed contracts with the owners of the Italy and Spain pavilions to take possession of the buildings, and intends to reopen the pavilions as soon as possible. According to original plans, all the Expo pavilions should have been removed after the event finished on 31 October last year, but the popularity of some pavilions has led to calls for their retention.
