Japan Airlines has started operating the Embraer E190, marking the first time this model of aircraft has flown in Japan.
The 95-seat regional jet was put into service with JAL’s subsidiary, J-Air, on a flight between Osaka and Kagoshima on 10 May. The airline has ordered 20 E190s from Embraer, the Brazilian company.
“We are honoured to receive the first E190 in Japan,” said Tetsuya Onuki, president of J-Air. “The combination of the existing E170s and new E190s in our fleet will give us greater flexibility to match our products and services to customer needs. We are confident that the E190, with our new cabin interior and the addition of Class J service, will deliver a refreshing and comfortable in-flight experience to customers.”
The new E190s will be configured with 95 leather seats in two cabin classes. They will operate alongside J-Air’s existing fleet of 76-seat E170 aircraft, and the airline has also placed orders for 30 new Mitsubishi MRJ90 jets.
Embraer has developed four aircraft for the 70- to 130-seat segment – the E170, E175, E190 and E195.
