Japan Airlines (JAL) will start flying its Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Vancouver next month.

Commencing on 3 February 2014, the Japanese carrier will initially fly to the Canadian city every Monday, direct from Tokyo Narita Airport. But from March 2014 the frequency will be ramped up to daily. The new aircraft will replace the B767-300ER that JAL currently uses on the route

The launch will mark the first-ever scheduled Dreamliner service to Vancouver.

“Vancouver’s community of aviation enthusiasts – me included – is thrilled to welcome the Dreamliner to YVR,” said Craig Richmond, president & CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority.

“Japan Airlines has connected travellers between Vancouver and Tokyo since 1968. After 45 years of great history and close to 23,000 flights, we are so pleased to celebrate JAL’s next chapter with the latest in aircraft technology.”

JAL operates its Dreamliners with just 186 seats – 42 in business class and 144 in economy. Vancouver will become the 13th international destination for JAL’s B787s, and its third in North America following San Francisco, San Diego and Boston.
