Saudi authorities expect to more than double passenger capacity at King Abdulaziz International Airport following the completion of the first phase of airport’s expansion in 2012.More than 13 million passengers pass through the airport at present, but this figure will rise to 30 million once the airport’s new terminal complex is completed replacing two existing buildings.The new terminal will boast 42 gates and will be served by a Skyrail automated train network. It will cover an area of 678,000 sq metres of which 51,700 sq metres will accommodate commercial outlets.
