Jumeirah Group has signed new agreements that will lead to the company’s debut in Malaysia.
The Dubai-based hotel group has penned management contracts with Oxley Malaysia for a new 190-room luxury Jumeirah hotel and 273 branded services residences in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.
Jumeirah Kuala Lumpur hotel and Jumeirah Living Kuala Lumpur residences will be set in one of the three towers, connected by a shopping mall, in the KLCC area of the city, close to the Petronas Twin Towers.
Construction is expected to start in 2016 and be completed in 2021.
“Our agreement with Oxley Malaysia paves the way for Jumeirah’s entry into the important Malaysian market,” said Gerald Lawless, president & CEO of Jumeirah. “This highly prestigious development further reinforces the reputation of the Jumeirah brand and will greatly appeal to our loyal customers who stay with Jumeirah in our properties across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
“We are proud to have been chosen as a partner and look forward to the launch of a new expression of outstanding luxury in the Malaysian capital.”
Jumeirah Living Kuala Lumpur residences will be located on the lower floors of the tower, while the Jumeirah Kuala Lumpur hotel will occupy the upper floors. The hotel will feature 190 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a lounge and a bar, plus a club lounge, spa, fitness centre and swimming pool.
Jumeirah Group currently operates 23 hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and has a further 25 properties in the pipeline under its Jumeirah and Venu brands.
Currently its only property in East Asia is the Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel in Shanghai, but the company has 11 other projects in pipeline in the region, in India, Indonesia and China. And Jumeirah revealed that is in negotiations for further properties in Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore.
