Korean Air has formed a new codeshare partnership that will allow passengers to connect to Sakhalin – the island in the Far East of Russia.
Aeroflot’s Far Eastern subsidiary Aurora Airlines, which was formed following the merger of SAT Airlines and Vladivostok Air, operates the route between Sakhalin’s main city, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, and Seoul’s Incheon Airport. And Korean Air will now be able place its ‘KE’ code on the service.
Aurora operates the route four times a week, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, using a 110-seat Boeing 737 aircraft. Flights depart Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk at 0930, arriving in Seoul at 1050. The return leg then departs the Korean capital at 1200, getting back into Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk at 1645.
The codeshare deal is intended to extend Korean Air’s reach into the Russian market, where it currently operates five weekly flights to Moscow and daily services to Vladivostok.
