London has maintained its position as the world’s top low-cost carrier (LCC) city, based on the number of seats available.
The England capital has nearly 15 million seats available on LCCs in the first half of 2013, around four million more than the second largest city, Sao Paulo.
According to the Amadeus data, growth in the LCC market in London increased 3% in H1 2013 compared to last year, with Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur seeing the biggest gains.
In Europe Warsaw, Copenhagen and Istanbul are seeing the largest increase in LCC seats, while Madrid, Athens and Rome have all seen double –digit dips.
Amadeus’ LCC specialist Alexandre Jorre said: “We see a natural boom in LCC capacity across Asia, where point-to-point air travel is largely underserved. However, across the mature markets of Europe and North America capacity is constrained, which may explain why some LCCs are considering new approaches to secure future growth.”
The travel technology company has seen a 25% increase in LCC bookings year-on-year.
