China’s Lucky Air has commenced its first ever international flights, with the launch of a new route to Singapore.
On 25 January 2014, the airline, which is a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines, commenced flights from its home base at Kunming to Singapore, via Guiyang. The twice weekly service will now operate every Tuesday and Saturday.
The arrival of the inaugural flight was celebrated with a traditional lion dance at Singapore’s Changi International Airport.
“We gather here today to witness the successful launch of Lucky Air’s non-stop service to Singapore. The new service will help drive the economic growth, facilitate the cultural exchanges between the two places. It makes both cities more accessible and help expand our partnership. We would like to make most of the opportunity to achieve a win-win result,” said Wong Woon Liong, senior director of Changi Airport Group’s advisory group.
“The scheduled service to Singapore marks the start of Lucky Air’s international expansion. Lucky Air plans to mainly focus on adjacent, Southeast Asian destinations from its base at Kunming’s Changshui International Airport and also fly to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and more cities in South Asia and West Asia,” said Ding Yongzheng, CEO of Lucky Air.
Lucky Air launched operations in 2006 and has since grown to become the second biggest airline in Yunnan province, after China Eastern Airlines. It now operates a fleet of 22 aircraft to 42 cities in China.
