The Lufthansa Group’s saw a significant 6.4-percentage point drop in load factors on its Asia Pacific routes in June 2011. The monthly data, which includes the traffic of Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines, showed that a 6.1% year-on-year rise in passenger traffic was far from sufficient to keep up with the group’s 14.5% extra seat capacity. This caused monthly load factors to drop from 87.3% in June 2010 to a still strong 80.9% last month. For the first six months of the year, Lufthansa experienced a 6.9% rise in passenger traffic, with load factors averaging 79.1% – 4.6 points down from the same period last year.
