The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has reopened its Bamboo bar following an extensive refurbishment.

The classic bar, which originally opened in 1953, has been visited by numerous celebrities over the years, including Louis Armstrong, Mick Jagger and Audrey Hepburn.

And while the interiors have been revamped, the hotel said it tried to retain the essence of the original bar, with rattan furniture and the famous bamboo bar.

“Our objective was to weave the past into the future,” explained Mandarin Oriental Bangkok’s general manager, Amanda Hyndman. “Old friends will recognise familiar pieces throughout the space that create a real sense of place.

“The new design better meets the changing needs of our sophisticated clientele, offering more intimate seating and comfort, and clever integration of the outdoor space and the adjacent Cigar Divan,” she added.

The Bamboo Bar will continue to serve a range of original cocktails, like the Thaijito, and will also remain a live music venue with a jazz band playing throughout the week.
