Manila sees hotel development surge
Manila has seen the strongest increase in new hotel development of any city in the Asia Pacific region in the past 12 months.
According to the latest regional hotel pipeline report from STR Global, the Philippine capital now has 9,968 new hotel rooms either under construction or in the final planning stages – 43.0% more than this time last year. These include major new developments at the Manila Bay integrated resort developments.
Two other Asia Pacific markets reported growth of more than 20% in terms of their hotel pipelines; Mumbai (+25.2%, 5,117 rooms) and Jakarta (+23.8%, 8,115 rooms). Bali is also seeing significant development with a pipeline of 7,587 rooms, up 19.7% year-on-year, while another resort island, Phuket, saw its pipeline jump 11.4% to 2,928 rooms.
Brisbane (+13.9%, 1,698 rooms) has Australia’s fastest-growing hotel pipeline.
