Marriott’s newest luxury brand, Edition, has been launched in China.
The new Sanya Edition opens this month on the shores of Hainan Island. Set on 20 hectares of land overlooking the South China Sea, the luxury hotel’s focal point is what it calls a “private ocean” – 20,000m² pool that pumps 38 million litres of saltwater directly from the sea every day.
The property offers a total of 512 “residential-style” rooms, including 46 suites and an additional 17 pool villas. Facilities include – but are not limited to – a spa with 12 treatment rooms, a rock climbing wall, mah-jong rooms, children’s waterslides, mini-golf and a gaming arcade including dodgem cars.
F&B options include seafront Chinese seafood restaurant with floating platforms and a fishpond, accessible via traditional sampan, plus a beachfront Indonesian restaurant and a rooftop bar.
Sanya becomes only the fourth Edition location in the world, following existing properties in London, Miami and New York. Marriott plans to bring the concept to Shanghai and Wuhan in the coming years, along with other major cities such as Bangkok, Singapore, Barcelona and Dubai.
