MAS chairman to step down

Dr Mohd Munir bin Abdul Majid will stand down as Chairman of Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS) when his current term expires on 31 July 2011. He announced the decision to his fellow directors at the end of Malaysia Airlines’ board meeting on Wednesday – the last such meeting he will have chaired.
Dr Munir, who is also Chairman of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, previously served as Group Editor of the New Straits Times from 1979 to 1986, as Chairman and Chief Executive of CIMB (1986 to 1993), and first and founding Chairman of the Securities Commission (1993 to 1999). Subsequently he served on the Boards of the then Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Celcom Malaysia Berhad (where he was Chairman from 2002 to 2004), before joining the Board of MAS and then becoming its Chairman in August 2004.
