Spain’s Melia Hotels International has opened its first ever property in Myanmar.
Located close to Inya Lake on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, between the city centre and the airport, the new Melia Yangon is directly connected to the Myanmar Plaza, the country’s largest shopping mall.
It offers a total of 430 rooms and suites with a minimum size of 48m², including a range of club rooms that provide access to a top floor lounge that offers 360 degrees views of the city and Inya Lake.
Other facilities at the hotel include three restaurants, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and a soon-to-open 1,800m² spa. And for the MICE market there will be more than 2,000m² of convention space, including a ballroom.
Melia’s launch in Yangon comes at a time when the Spanish hotel group is expanding rapidly in Asia. The company’s regional portfolio now comprises 13 hotels in six countries: China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
It also recently launched the 135-room Melia Makassar; its sixth Indonesian hotel and first on the island of Sulawesi.
