Melia Hotels International has signed a deal that will see it operate its first ever hotel in Mongolia.
The management agreement with local company Baz International is for the Gran Melia Ulaanbaatar – a new-build hotel which is set to open in the Mongolian capital in 2017.
“Gran Melia Ulaanbaatar will represent perfectly our ambition to position our brands in the most dynamic markets and destinations,” said Gabriel Escarrer, Melia’s vice president & CEO.
“Mongolia is a global power in the mining sector and several other industries, with commercial partners as important as China, Russia, USA or Japan, all of them part of Melia Hotels International priority markets.”
Located on the top 12 floors of a new skyscraper in Ulaanbaatar, the Gran Melia will be a luxury hotel with 150 rooms, a rooftop restaurant, spa and even a helipad.
Gran Melia Ulaanbaatar will become the 13th Gran Melia hotel worldwide, and Melia Hotels International’s 18th property in Asia Pacific.
