Singapore’s landmark, The Merlion at Merlion Park will undergo a major transformation from 7 February 2011. Titled the ‘The Merlion Hotel’, a new artistic concept will see the statue be transformed into a temporary hotel suite to welcome guests for overnight stays. This is just one of the many artwork installation projects presented as part of this year’s Singapore Biennale organised by the Singapore Art Museum.
From 7 February to 9 March 2011, The Merlion will be boarded as the transformation takes place, before ‘The Merlion Hotel’ is unveiled on 11 March 2011 and opened for public viewing from 13 March to 15 May 2011. During this time, members of the public will be able to view the installation daily from 10am to 7pm. Key information on ‘The Merlion Hotel’, including how visitors can stay a night at the suite, will be detailed on panels and announced shortly by the Singapore Art Museum.
The Merlion will then undergo reinstatement works from 16 May to 5 June 2011.
