More Brits to head to the beach this summer
Brits will shun ‘staycations’ and head to the beach this summer, according to one online travel agent.
On the Beach has reported a major upturn in bookings for cheap summer holidays abroad, as Brits look to escape the unpredictable weather at home and head somewhere with guaranteed sunshine.
According to the OTA, the Canary Islands are proving most popular for British holidaymakers this summer, with bookings to Tenerife seeing a major 60% rise compared to last year, making it the most popular holiday destination with On the Beach customers in 2012. Majorca, the Costa del Sol and Egypt’s Red Sea coast have also seen strong growth.
“With Britain focusing on the Queens Jubilee and the Olympics the UK will be saturated with tourists. Our booking data shows that Brits have chosen to avoid these crowds and take advantage of the great family holiday deals this summer to many of the nations’ favourite destinations and guarantee themselves their share of the sun,” said Alistair Daly, marketing director at On the Beach.
