Singapore, 18 February 2010: More Singaporeans expect to go on holiday in the first half of 2010 compared to six months ago, according to a MasterCard survey on potential consumer travel behavior.
Of the 400 people surveyed in Singapore, 42% of the respondents said that international personal air travel was a purchasing priority for them in the next six months (vs. 30% in the last survey six months ago). Note: The survey does not represent MasterCard financial performance.
These respondents were then asked to name the top three countries that they were most likely to travel to in the next six months.
Regional destinations are proving more popular with travelers in Singapore than destinations further afield, as nine of the top ten likely global travel destinations listed by respondents are located in the Asia/Pacific region.
Ninety-seven percent listed a destination in the Asia/Pacific as a top vacation spot. Nineteen percent said they wanted to visit a destinationin Europe, while 11% said that a leisure spot in the Middle/East & Africa region was a possible holiday destination.
On a market-level basis, Malaysia (40%) topped the list as the most popular destination, followed by Hong Kong (33%), Taiwan (31%), Australia (25%) and Thailand (22%).
