MoT intensifies Clean India Campaign

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) will further intensify its Clean India Campaign. The ministry has announced the adoption of ten important ASI monuments by Institutes of Hotel Management (IHM) and Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management.
The MoT will engage the Quality Council of India (QCI) for an independent and objective evaluation of the state of cleanliness specific to each monument chosen for adoption. The QCI will further classify the improvement over the adoption period into four bands – average, good, very good and excellent.
“The Ministry of Tourism’s approach will be a blend of persuasion, education, training, demonstration and sensitisation of all segments of our society. The Ministry will, in particular, work towards the cleanliness of certain identified tourist destinations,” said a PIB release.
The monuments adopted are Golkunda Fort, Hyderabad; Se’ Cathedral & St. Francis Assisi Church Complex; Goa; Gwalior Fort, Gwalior; Buddhist Caves, Kanheri; Megalithic Bridge, Meghalya; Red Fort, Delhi; Temples of Bhubneshwar; Bhatinda Fort, Punjab; Mamallapuram monuments in Tamil Nadu and Imambara of Asaf-ud Daula in Lucknow.
Furthermore, the MoT has launched a scheme of awareness for Cleanliness through NGOs, schools, colleges, corportes, industry etc. specific to certain selected tourist destinations. The scheme will enable schools and non-profit organisations to adopt, voluntarily, certain indicated destinations. The scheme also provides for a dispensation to regulate each adoption. The one important aspect of the scheme is that it necessitate an assessment of the performance by QCI.
