The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has appointed National Level Consulting (NLC) to indentify spiritual tourism circuits, including Buddhist circuits for integrated development during the 12th five year plan. The ministry has identified a list of Buddhist circuits on the basis of their tourism potential along with the consultation from states and stakeholders of the industry.
The MoT looks at developing the Dharmayatra circuit covering Bodh Gaya in Bihar, Sarnath, Kushinagar and Piparvah in Uttar Pradesh. It also plans to extend the existing Dharmayatra circuit to Bodh Gaya, Nalanda, Rajgir, Patna, Vaishali, Vikramshila, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Kapilvastu, Saniska and Piparvah. The ministry will identify the designated circuits and fill in infrastructure gaps to provide better amenities to tourists.
The ministry has not sanctioned any funds for these identified circuits.
