Myanmar bans monks from elections

Myanmar has passed a law which will bar monks from representing political parties in the forthcoming elections. According to a BBC report, the newly-passed law bans members of religious orders and civil servants from joining political parties. Buddhist monks were the driving forces behind anti-government protests in 2007.
