Rocco Forte Hotels developed the concept of the ‘Map My Future’ app as part of a competition set up by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills and the Department for Work and Pensions, encouraging firms to create projects to benefit employees, in return for funding.

The aim was to create projects that will trial new ways of designing jobs, delivering training and support, increasing business and staff productivity and ultimately improving salaries through career progression.

Through the ‘Map My Future’ app, employees in hospitality and retail will be able to access a Career Map, created by People 1st, showing all the possible career paths beyond their current role, as well as the skills and training needed to progress.

They can also set career goals, access relevant training content and receive job advice from career coaches.

Rocco Forte claims ‘Map My Future’ will revolutionise HR practices and processes within business and will be available to purchase as a white label product to wider hospitality employers.

The idea for Map My Future was developed and designed by a small in-house team consisting of Ros Young, group HR director, and Irene Forte, daughter of Sir Rocco Forte and brand manager of the Group.

“Map My Future is a ground-breaking career progression and up skilling application for employees in the hospitality and retail industry,” said Forte. “It highlights that hospitality and retail are excellent career options, full of opportunity. It also encourages our industry to embrace learning on the go, which is increasingly prevalent today. Mobile learning fits perfectly with our operational workforce that is constantly on the move and that does not have daily access to computers. We hope that as a result of Map My Future we will retain and attract more individuals in our industry, thus supporting its planned growth.”

The app is being created as part of an initiative of new projects, aimed at tackling major labour market challenges and fighting low pay. The final seven projects are jointly funded by UKCES and DWP through the UK Futures Programme – an investment fund that aims to tackle major labour market challenges through testing, trialling and demonstrating new ways of working. The projects are all led by employers and combine public and private investment.
