ABOUDI ASALI has been appointed senior vice president for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region for Jumeirah Group. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Asali will report to group chief development officer Robert Swade and assumes responsibility for driving expansion of the Jumeirah brand across the MEASA region.
HAMAD MOHAMED AL-HARTHY has been appointed country manager for Oman Air and will be based in Muscat. He joined the airline as a management trainee in 2002. He was then appointed to the role of sales executive in Muscat, before being promoted to district sales manager in Saudi Arabia, followed by Oman, and finally handling the position of country manager in India.
HARALD BUERKLE has been appointed general manager for Radisson Blu Hotel Cairo Heliopolis. In his current role, Buerkle will lead the team to ensure revenue and guest satisfaction targets. He will focus particularly on consistent operation of the hotel’s rooms, restaurants and meeting spaces maximising opportunities to deliver profitable results.
MAMOUN HMEDAN has been appointed general manager, Middle East & North Africa (MENA) for Wego. He will lead the regional team based in Dubai and also launch a TV advertising campaign targeting Arabic speaking markets across the region. Hmedan first joined Wego in 2013 in the role of manager – media sales – MENA.
ELIZABETH BUSE, former executive vice president of Visa Inc and currently co-CEO and member of the board of directors of Monitise PLC; MICHAEL DURHAM, former president and chief executive officer of Sabre Group Holdings and currently member of the board of directors of Hertz Global Holdings; and DOUGLAS HACKER, former executive vice president, strategy of UAL Corporation and current member of the board of directors of Aircastle Ltd have been appointed to the Board of Directors for Travelport Worldwide Limited. With the appointments, Travelport’s board of directors now consists of eight members, all of whom, with the exception of the CEO, Gordon Wilson, are independent non-executives.
ALAN WATTS, previously chief operating officer (COO), Australasia and Japan, and operations performance, AMEA, will now oversee performance of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) 246 hotels across 37 countries and territories. In his expanded role as COO for Asia, Middle East and Africa, Watts will be supported by Pascal Gauvin, chief operating officer, India, Middle East and Africa and Phil Broad, Vice President, Food & Beverage, AMEA.
KHALED SHARABASSY has been appointed general manager for Tilal Liwa Hotel. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He previously served as cluster manager of eCommerce and revenue operations of Danat Hotels & Resorts.
BRUNO MATHEU has been appointed to the role of chief operating officer equity partners in the Etihad Airways Aviation Group. He brings with him almost 30 years of senior management experience in the global aviation industry, Matheu joined Etihad Airways after two decades at Air France-KLM.
DAVIDE BERTILACCIO has been appointed as area general manager for the Fairmont Kenya collection of hotels – Fairmont The Norfolk, Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club and Fairmont Mara Safari Club. Bertilaccio will be responsible for performance and operations of three Kenyan hotels, which collectively includes 290 guestrooms and suites, 51 luxury tents, and over 10 food and beverage outlets.
