Norwegian Cruise Lines showed off its new ship, the Norwegian Getaway, to the UK travel trade this week.
The Miami-themed ship was delivered to the cruise line on Friday before sailing to Rotterdam to pick up the first of its passengers, media and trade partners.
Getaway then sailed to Southampton to be introduced to around 30,000 UK travel agents, trade partners, media and customers. The ship will depart Southampton for an overnight trip tonight (15 Jan), arriving back in Southampton tomorrow morning.
Guests onboard were able to try out the ship’s five-slide aqua park; its magic experience the Illusionarium; The Grammy Experience and see performances of Broadway musical Legally Blonde.

Francis Riley, vice president and general manager international at Norwegian Cruise Line said: “This is an exciting time for Norwegian Cruise Line. Norwegian Getaway continues Norwegian’s long-standing tradition of innovation with features on board, such as The Waterfront and 678 Ocean Place. This unique outdoor dining and entertainment space adds a whole new dynamic to ocean cruising as guests enjoy al fresco dining along with three action-packed decks that allow guests to fully experience the ship’s connection with the ocean.”
Norwegian Getaway, the 13th in Norwegian’s fleet, will depart the UK port tomorrow evening (16 Jan) for a trans-atlantic crossing to New York arriving 26 January.
The ship will eventually arrive in Miami on 7 February for its christening, where it will be joined by its godmothers, the cheerleaders of the Miami Dolphins football team.
Its inaugural cruise departs on 8 February on a seven-night Eastern Caribbean round-trip journey from Miami to Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas.
