As football fever sweeps the globe in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup, Oman Air has announced that it is to be the Official Carrier of the Sultanate of Oman’s first ever World Cup Village.
Oman’s national airline will be sponsoring Oman’s World Cup Village throughout the tournament, from the opening ceremony on Thursday 11th June to the World Cup Final on Sunday 11th July.
Oman’s World Cup village will offer the country’s many football fans the chance to watch every match in fully air-conditioned comfort, live from South Africa on the largest screen ever seen in Oman. A high-tech sound and lighting system, together with a stadium-style seating layout, will add to the atmosphere and refreshments will be available throughout. DJs and freestyle football demonstrations will provide entertainment between matches in the 1,500-capacity tent, which is located in the beautiful grounds of the InterContinental Muscat Hotel.
Announcing Oman Air’s sponsorship of the World Cup Village, the airline’s Chief Corporate Affairs, Philippe Georgiou, says:
“As the 2010 World Cup kicks off, Oman Air is proud to announce its sponsorship of Oman’s first-ever World Cup Village.
“Football is by far the most popular sport in Oman and we are delighted to be supporting this fantastic initiative. It offers all football fans, whether Omanis, expatriates or visitors, the unique opportunity to enjoy the excitement of the World’s largest sporting tournament, live from South Africa, and in a thrilling atmosphere.
“From the spectacle of the opening ceremony to the climax of the World Cup Final in July, Oman Air will be with Oman’s football fans every step of the way and I am sure that the World Cup Village will prove to be extremely popular.”
Oman Air’s sponsorship of the World Cup Village is the latest in a series of initiatives the airline has taken to support the sporting life of the Sultanate of Oman. Earlier this year, the airline was a major sponsor of the first-ever Tour of Oman, which brought the cream of the world’s racing cyclists to the Sultanate for a prestigious four-day event. In addition, Oman Air has just announced its sponsorship of Oman’s first international motor-racing star, Ahmad Al Harthy.
The airline’s sponsorship of these initiatives underlines its commitment to supporting the Sultanate’s sporting and cultural achievements, both on the world stage and at home. As the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, Oman Air is receiving international acclaim for its success and for the quality of its products and services.
Philippe Georgiou concludes:
“Oman Air is recognised internationally for its extraordinarily high standards, and for its innovation, and it is a pleasure to be able, through our sponsorship, to shine a light on some of the other great innovations of the Sultanate of Oman.”
