Peninsula has unveiled a major redesign of its guest rooms in Chicago, which it claims are now “the most technologically advanced in the world”.

All rooms now feature interactive digital bedside and desk tablets, offering a range of services in 11 languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Korean, Japanese, simplified and traditional Chinese).

Using the tablets, guests can control the room’s lighting, temperature and TV from one central hub, as well as being able to order room service, access restaurant menus, hotel services, city and weather information, and change privacy (do not disturb) options.

The tablets also provide guests with complimentary long distance calls, free Wi-Fi, and the PressReader app, which provides access to 2,000 international newspapers and magazines.

The Peninsula Chicago has also introduced two new service initiatives: ’24-Hour Check-In’ for web bookings and ‘Keys to the City’. Under the new check-in facility, guests who book their rooms online at peninsula.com now can check in at any time on their arrival day.

Meanwhile, the new Keys to the City programme offers a series of tour options, including a private kitchen tour at the three-Michelin-star restaurant, Grace; guaranteed theatre seats and VIP lounge access, and a pass to The Art Institute of Chicago.

The new features have been introduced as part of a renovation of the hotel’s 331 rooms and suites.

“Our renovation relaunches The Peninsula Chicago as the heart of Chicago and will cement the hotel’s place firmly for the future,” said Maria Razumich-Zec, the hotel’s general manager and regional vice president. “Innovation is a core attribute of The Peninsula Hotels, and the personalised technologies elevate the new guest rooms to a previously undefined level of experiential luxury.”

The full renovation of the hotel will be completed by April 2016.
