Per AQUUM has announced plans to open a new luxury resort in the Maldives. Launching in October 2011, NIYAMA will be located in the southwestern atoll of Dhaalu – a 40 minute seaplane flight from Male airport. Set across two islands – Embudhufushi and Olhuveli – the resort will feature 86 Studios and Pavilions. The Beach Studios will feature outdoor bathrooms, large deck areas and secluded beach views; Deluxe Beach Studios will have their own fibre optic lit pools; Beach Pavilions offer 24-hour butler service, private pools and exclusive beach access; and the Beach Residence with private dining alcoves and large living areas. The expansive Water Studios or Deluxe Water Studios meanwhile, both offer private pools and large living areas, and the Water Pavilions are available with one or two bedrooms complete with private pool an butler service.
F&B options at NIYAMA include Epicure – an all-day restaurant with take-away options from the international gourmet deli. Fahrenheit is a rooftop bar, while TRIBAL is designed as a modern day campsite with culinary offerings influenced by the cuisines of South and East Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America. Built 500 metres offshore, NIYAMA’s signature restaurant and lounge will appear to float on the surface of the Indian Ocean and will only be accessible by boat. Eight metres below will be the world’s first underwater club.
Another first for Per AQUUM is ‘Deli In’. Each Studio and Pavilion will be stocked with a fridge full of gourmet deli items, such as cheeses, olives, cold cuts and wines.
The Lime Spa will be open 24 hours a day, as will the PUMP gymnasium, while the resort will also offer PADI dive courses and numerous water sports.
Neil Palmer, CEO of Per AQUUM, said; “We have dedicated a lot of time to the creation of NIYAMA and have been extremely fortunate to be able to develop these two beautiful islands using Per AQUUM’s visionary and iconic design philosophy. We wanted to create a luxury contemporary and vibrant resort for the stylish aspirational traveller. NIYAMA will incorporate traditional Maldivian elegance in a naturally modern aesthetic. The resort will also bring another world first to the Maldives with the opening of its underwater music club.”
