Philippine Airlines has resumed daily flights to Kuala Lumpur after a three-year absence.

The new service took off on Thursday (8 June 2017) and coincided with the start of a codeshare partnership between PAL and Malaysia Airlines, which will open up more destinations for both Filipino and Malaysian travellers.

The new flights will also support the estimated 800,000 overseas Filipino workers who are currently employed in Malaysia.

“The resumption of PAL flights between Manila and Kuala Lumpur will help foster economic and cultural ties between the Philippines and Malaysia. Most importantly, it addresses the clamour for a direct service between the two capital cities,” said PAL’s president & chief operating officer, Jaime Bautista.

“Through PAL flights and codeshare partners, we can carry passenger traffic from Kuala Lumpur to China, Japan, South Pacific and North America and thus enhance our ASEAN network,” he added.

The new outbound service, PR525, will depart Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport at either 0725 or 1130 depending on the day, and arrive at KL International Airport at 1100 or 1500. The return flights will then take off from KLIA at 1210 or 1600 and land back in Manila at 1550 or 1930.

PAL is deploying a 199-seat Airbus A321 on the route, with business, premium economy and economy classes, plus Wi-Fi in all cabins.

Passengers on these flights will also be able to connect from KL to 12 Malaysian destinations with Malaysia Airlines, and from Manila to nine destinations in the Philippines with PAL.

PAL will compete with AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia, Cebu Pacific and Malaysia Airlines on the new route.
