Philippines to promote super-region
The DOT will occupy 10 booths that will highlight the Central Visayas as its theme as being the hub of the country’s tourism super-region and draw the inflow of tourist to other surrounding island destinations.
“The fair will serve as a venue for the first-ever launch of our tourism super-region in a foreign market. This is significant because the Busan fair is regarded as the second largest gateway to Korea’s 11.6 million outbound travel mart with total tourist spend of $ 13.7 billion last year,” said DOT Secretary Joseph Ace H. Durano according to Manila Bulletin.
He further added that the campaign aims to reach the DOT’s batting goal of 650,000 Korean arrivals as he stressed the billions of pesos that the Koreans had contributed into various tourism facilities that have helped increase the Philippine’s room capacity.
Korea accounted for the Philippines’ biggest foreign arrivals in 2006 when it posted 572,133 out of the total 2.84 million.
The Busan Fair expects a large number of exhibitors from more than 35 countries and over 60,000 visitors from Busan city and other areas of Korea.
Philippine Airlines office in Korea will be supporting the DOT’s efforts during the event in the bid to push the tourism growth by 10% this year.
