Almost five months on from the spate of disasters that flattened swathes of northeastern Honshu, Japan, Preferred Hotel Group is continuing the relief effort. The group raised over US$100,000 by selling over 755 room nights through its fund raising programme “Check-in for Japan”. One hundred percent of the proceeds, administered by the American Red Cross, will go to those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.More than 190 Preferred members around the world contributed more than 770 room nights which were sold off at promotional rates on Vacationist.com. Throughout June, the private sale site sold-off discounted hotel nights at participant properties. Lindsey Ueberroth, President of Preferred Hotel Group, explained reasons from the initiative; “As a global hotel company, we felt a strong responsibility to utilise our resources and rally our community of hotels for the ongoing relief efforts in Japan.
