Princess Cruises has signed a contract to broadcast the 2011 season of the Australian Football League on its local fleet. Sport enthusiasts will now have the opportunity to view 33 AFL games, including the play-offs and finals while aboard Sun Princess and Dawn Princess.
The first game was screened live on Friday 25 March, with the next scheduled St Kilda FC v Richmond match airing across both ships this Friday 1 April. Matches are broadcast on the Sun and Dawn Princess’ 28 square metre ‘Movies under the Stars’ LED screens above the ships’ main pools. The games are also broadcast inside passengers’ rooms and on various other screens around the ships.
Princess Cruises Executive Vice President, Jan Swartz, said; “Princess Cruises already offer Australian currency, entertainment and cuisine on board our Australian-based fleet, so it makes sense to also give passengers the chance to view their local football code.
“It is a well-known fact that Australians love their sport and this new initiative means that fans won’t miss out on watching their favourite teams play while at sea.”
