Quake zone boosted by Chinese New Year tourism

China’s Sichuan province, which was ravaged by the 2008 earthquake, received a surge in tourist arrivals during the Chinese New year holiday period. According to a Xinhua report, the seven-day holiday saw 19.38 million tourists arrive in the province, a rise of 17% year-on-year. Tourism receipts increased 23.8% to CNY5.8 billion (US$848 million), the Sichuan Tourism Administration was reported saying.
