The recent Tropical Cyclone Yasi which brought destruction to large parts of Queensland may have had one positive effect – helping police combat the region’s drug trade. The Cairns Post recently reported local police as saying that the gale-force winds and heavy rains helped to wipe out much of the region’s marijuana crop.
“We would expect that a lot of the cannabis would have been destroyed,” the Far Northern Drug Squad’s, Kevin Goan, was reported saying. He added that the loss of power suffered in much of the region would have impacted the crop, which often relies on high-powered lighting systems.
