A railway has opened in northwest China’s Xinjiang province, connecting two former Silk Road cities. Trains began cargo operations between Kashi and Hotan on Thursday, with passenger services expected to begin in June, Xinhua reported. The CNY5.1 billion (US$771 million) railway runs 488km through southern Xinjiang, along a key section of the ancient Silk Road.
