Ritz-Carlton has signed a new property in Melbourne which is set to become the highest luxury hotel in Australia.

Located on Spencer Street, the Ritz-Carlton Melbourne will form part of a new mixed-use project in the central of the city also featuring residential apartments and retail outlets.

The hotel will be located on floors 64 to 77 of a high-rise tower, with views of the city from all 250 rooms. The hotel will also include “restaurants and a host of services and facilities”, according to Ritz-Carlton.

The move marks the second partnership between Ritz-Carlton and the Far East Consortium (FEC) in Australia, following last year’s collaboration on the Ritz-Carlton at Elizabeth Quay in Perth.

“We are honoured to partner once again with [Far East Consortium] on a second, spectacular project in Australia,” said Herve Humler, Ritz-Carlton’s president & chief operating officer. “We look forward to welcoming Ritz-Carlton guests from around the world to a sensational high-rise hotel in Melbourne.”

FEC’s chairman, David Chiu, added; “We believe Australia has plenty of opportunities in the tourism industry. The country has many unique offerings which are driving the growth in tourist arrivals. We are delighted to bring this international luxury brand to Perth and now Melbourne.”

Located on the site of the former Age newspaper offices, FEC’s new West Side Place development will comprise four separate towers ranging from 62 to 79 floors. As well as the Ritz-Carlton, FEC said the complex will house 2,600 residential apartments, 7,000m² of retail space and another 3-4 star hotel.

Ritz-Carlton currently operates 25 hotels in Asia Pacific and its new Perth hotel will debut in 2018.
