Sabre Holdings and Travelport have ramped up the pressure on American Airlines (AA) over fare pricing and distribution.Last week, Sabre filed an anti-trust claim against the airline in a bid to “protect the transparency of information regarding prices that airlines charge consumers for their flights and services”.Sabre claims AA is engaging in anti-competitive conduct to maintain its monopoly position over air transportation from its US hubs and to gain a monopoly position in air booking services. Furthermore, it argues AA is unlawfully forcing travel agencies, travel management companies and others to invest in its Direct Connect product, which is seen as a rival to other GDS products.AA is also attempting to eliminate the GDS developers by refusing to provide them with complete fare information, according to Sabre.Meanwhile, Travelport has won an American court injunction against AA forcing the airline to reinstate its fares on Orbitz immediately.Travelport CCO Kurt Ekert said the company was willing to work “constructively” with AA to ensure agents were provided “the most transparent travel booking processes possible”.
