Samoa will officially move into a different time zone later this year in an effort to better align with its major Australasian trading partners, ABC News has reported. The South Pacific island nation currently sits east of the International Date Line, making it 21 hours behind Australia. The new move will shift it west of the date line, meaning it will be three hours ahead of Canberra, and just one hour ahead of New Zealand and Fiji. The switch will be made in December 2011 on a trial basis, before becoming official in January 2012.
