The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will send one of its vessels to patrol the territorial waters of Palau – the Pacific island nation located 500km east of the Philippines – in an effort to protect the marine environment. Palau’s President, Johnson Toribiong, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sea Shepherd President & Founder, Paul Watson, which will see the MY Bob Barker ship patrol the country’s waters and provide support and training to local authorities. The MoU will help protect Palau’s shark sanctuary, which was created in September 2009.
The shark sanctuary’s founder, Dermot Keane, who witnessed the MoU signing, called it “a major milestone for Palau’s conservation”.
