In celebration of the second anniversary of the hotel’s opening on 2 March 2009, Shangri-La Hotel Tokyo is holding a special charity auction. From 24 to 30 January 2011, guests, through Twitter, can bid from as low as JPY634 (US$7.70) for one night’s stay in a Deluxe Bay View Room. One night’s stay in a Deluxe Bay View Room is worth JPY74,000, not including tax and service charges. This is the first time in Japan that a hotel has held such an auction using social media.
The auction opens at noon on 24 January 2011 and closes at noon on 30 January 2011. The JPY634 starting price is inspired by the final height of the Tokyo Sky Tree, which will be 634 metres high when completed. The hotel’s Deluxe Bay View Rooms overlook the new landmark power.
To participate in the auction, guests just need to follow the official Twitter account of Shangri-La Hotel Tokyo (@shangrilatokyo) and bid the price after #shangrila_auction. Guests can bid multiple times during the auction and once the auction is over, the highest bid wins.
The bidding status will be displayed on the special campaign website at
http://www.shangri-la.jp/english/twitter_auction/ on a real-time basis. Details of the auction rules can be reviewed on the same website. Proceeds from this auction will be donated to Ashinaga, a non-profit organisation that provides support to children who have lost either one or both of their parents.
